Running project folders locally after installing node and gulp and sass

I download the companion files and I would like to run them locally. I did a global install of npm node and gulp also sass -I assume I need to also run

-npm install -gulp install -install sass (allthough I also installed that globally)

I tried running gulp typing node run but when I start my browser window with localhost:8080 I don't see anything.

What am I missing?
