I am a bit confused when it comes to explicit and implicit types...

Did I get this correctly?

var message : String = "Hello!" //This is an explicit type

var message = "Hello" //This is an implicit type

So an explicit type is when you specify the type, and an implicit type is when you do not?

This is right! When you dont specify the type of a variaBle and you let the computer to decide then it is called implicit. In other words the computer implies the type and stores it according to that.

On the other hand when you say that a variable is string then computer doesnt imply anything, he just stores the given variable as string
