Chief Product Officer (CPO)

Overview

The CPO serves as champion and visionary for Treehouse’s products. As a member of the Executive Team, this role is essential to the success of the business. Responsible for driving product strategy and roadmap to deliver a superior experience for students. Reports to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and leads the efforts of a large, dispersed team.

Responsibilities

The CPO builds strong relationships throughout the organization - works collaboratively to coordinate efforts to ensure that Treehouse leads the market for online coding-based educational technology solutions. Brings new ideas to the organization for meeting current business needs while pushing for future capabilities.

  • Responsible for building team and organizational capability by leading/managing the following:

  • Definition of course direction, content engagement strategies and overall product management.

  • Identification of unmet customer needs (current and potential customers).

  • Development of a comprehensive strategy to drive student retention and LTV through mobile.

  • Identification of new target products/markets (including B2B).

  • Presentation of the company’s product vision to partners and other key external audiences.

  • Setting and translating vision and strategy into actionable plans.

  • Use of the right levers to impact profitability, market share, and customer loyalty.

Qualifications

  • Significant experience with consumer online, mobile and/or internet educational technology companies required. Especially: (1) Companies that create engaging, repeated experiences and (2) Companies that create online, interactive tools

  • Minimum 10 years in product management - demonstrated expertise in designing successful products and developing compelling products, such as: Exceptional skills in listening, learning, leading, analyzing, anticipating and re-imagining.

  • Expertise in best practices for gathering, prioritizing, scheduling and implementing requirements from customers, partners the marketplace, and internal sources.

  • Extensive knowledge in capturing the voice of the customer (B2C and B2B) and continually improving products to satisfy customer needs.

  • Proven success in managing diverse teams including the ability to align on a vision, understand resource capability and successfully drive results.

  • Must be able to lead a large, dispersed team (several remote team members).

  • Action-oriented, entrepreneurial, humble, collaborative.

  • Must be a results-driven self-starter; think creatively and laterally.

  • Effectively balance short-term and long-term strategies in order to excite customers and drive subscription sales.

  • Must thrive under the pressure of constant change.

  • Highly collaborative, able to develop effective relationships across the organization and build alignment and integration with projects.

  • Demonstrated willingness to take risks and state personal opinions even when facing opposition.

  • Ability to create open channels of communication, create impact without direct authority, and achieve collaborative buy-in.
