Building with Color3:45 with Ashley Burke
Use a combination of tools including shapes, shape builder, and the alignment tools, we’ll draw your logo.
Now it is time to draw our logo. 0:00 In this video we will be recreating and building our logo using vector shapes. 0:03 I will use a combination of tools including shapes, 0:09 shape builder, pencil and the alignment controls to put it together. 0:12 I'm going to be going for a flat, simple, geometric design style. 0:18 And first, what I like to do is just kind of take a look at the drawing, and 0:24 analyze it a little bit. 0:28 We're going to be using simple shapes to recreate this image. 0:30 So, like, a rectangle, another rectangle, another rectangle for the metal band. 0:34 A rounded shape for our eraser. 0:42 This is a triangle, a smaller triangle. 0:46 You can see that we're really just dissecting it into simpler shapes. 0:49 For colors, we can open up, over here, 0:58 if you go to Window >Swatches. 1:03 You can create a group of colors to use. 1:07 You can just use your color picker, of course, by double clicking. 1:10 If I uncheck this, you'll have more options. 1:15 You can use your color picker. 1:17 You can also use your color pickers over here. 1:20 There's a color guide, if you're interested in exploring that. 1:24 We do have creative cloud, they also have color themes that you can explore as well. 1:27 If you're building a swatch library, first you 1:33 want to create a new color group, we'll call this logo or whatever you like. 1:38 And as you are working if you found things you liked you can click and 1:44 drag them into your folder. 1:48 So if I'm like, oh yes this is the one. 1:51 I got it. 1:54 So this is how you can build a color group to use while you are working and 1:55 you can open this in other documents later on. 2:00 And so this is helpful for us because when we're putting together our page mock-up, 2:04 we will be using a lot of the same colors. 2:08 I'm gonna delete this for now. 2:12 I have created a color group already that I wanna work with. 2:13 The first step to creating this is drawing a rectangle. 2:19 That's going to be the body of our very tiny pencil. 2:22 I'm going to make it this lighter yellow color. 2:26 And now I'm going to option, click, and drag down. 2:36 Choose my darker color, and scale this up. 2:41 And you can see this creates a nice subtle definition of the pencil. 2:48 Next, using our pencil, our P, we're gonna create the tip of the pencil. 2:56 Gonna hold down shift so that I'll constrain my proportions to 45 degrees. 3:02 Back up. 3:08 I want this to be a nice sandy color, more like wood. 3:10 Okay. 3:13 Click off. 3:15 And it looks like we, this wasn't perfect, so no big deal. 3:18 We'll zoom in. 3:22 And I'm gonna use my Direct Selection Tool, A. 3:23 Now I'm going to drag it until it intersects here. 3:29 Perfect. 3:32 So now you can see where we're going with this. 3:36 For the next part we're going to create the graphite tip. 3:38 The pencil tip here. 3:44
