Calculate a percentage manually

A percentage is a ratio of parts of a whole and is expressed as a number per 100. Let's go back to our classroom data. If I gave an assignment, and half of the students passed, and the others failed, I could express that 50% passed and 50% failed. The two percentages add up to 100%.
