In this course, we're going to learn the core concepts of CSS while styling the structure of a simple website for the city of Lake Tahoe, CA. We’ll start with basic concepts, then gradually progress to more advanced topics and lessons.
[MUSIC] 0:00 Hi, everyone. 0:04 I'm Guil. 0:05 In this course, we're gonna learn the basics of CSS, or Cascading Style Sheets. 0:06 It's one of the core technologies for 0:11 designing and building Web sites and applications. 0:13 No matter what kind of Web site or 0:16 web application you want to build, you'll have to use CSS. 0:18 Now, you might have already used CSS or seen it in action in a previous course. 0:22 In this course, 0:27 we're going to dive a little deeper into many of the core concepts of CSS. 0:28 So, what exactly is CSS and why is it considered a core web technology? 0:33 Well, [SOUND] CSS is a stylesheet language that 0:38 describes the presentation of Web pages. 0:41 [SOUND] Whereas HTML is what [SOUND] forms the structural foundation of a Web page, 0:44 CSS is [SOUND] what we use to style the HTML with [SOUND] colors, 0:49 backgrounds, font sizes, layout, and much more. 0:53 Now, if you haven't written a lot of CSS or 0:56 if you've never written CSS at all, don't worry. 0:59 That's what this course is for. 1:02 We'll start with basic CSS concepts, 1:03 then gradually progress to more advanced topics and lessons. 1:06 But before diving into CSS, it's important to have a basic understanding of HTML and 1:11 the structure of a document. 1:16 So, if you're not familiar with HTML, 1:18 go through our HTML courses first, then meet me right back here in CSS Basics. 1:20 To get familiar with the most important parts of CSS, 1:26 we're going to style the HTML structure of a simple landing page for 1:30 the beautiful city of Lake Tahoe, California. 1:34 First, we'll learn the different ways we can apply CSS to a page. 1:37 Then we'll start adding those nice design layers to our page with basic selectors, 1:41 common CSS properties and values. 1:46 We'll even use some of the latest features in CSS. 1:48 Writing good, efficient CSS takes a lot of practice and 1:52 careful consideration about how we write our code from the very beginning. 1:56 So, follow along closely, take good notes, and make sure you also take a look at 2:01 the teacher's notes for each video because they'll provide additional information and 2:05 resources about each topic. 2:09 By the end of this course, you'll be a few steps closer to being a CSS pro. 2:12 Are you ready? 2:16 Then let's get started. 2:18
