WordPress Migration Overview1:24 with Zac Gordon
A good WordPress developer needs to know how to successfully migrate WordPress sites from a local to live server as well as from one domain name to another. Before we begin to migrate our site from local to live, we will go over the different steps we need to know about.

[Launching a WordPress Site Project]
Congratulations on making it to the point in your WordPress theme development learning
that you are ready to migrate your site from local to live servers.
Once you get a hang of the migration process, you will be able
to easily migrate your site from a local to live server or from one folder to another
or even from one domain to another domain.
Here are the basic steps we need to take to do this.
>> First, we are going to update our wp-config file with the URL for our site.
>> I find that this helps the migration process go a little bit more smoothly.
>> Next, we want to backup our site.
>> This includes both our files and our database.
>> Once we've done that, we could set up our new database on the live server
and import the database from our local site.
>> After that, we will upload all of our WordPress files and update
the wp-config file with the new URL and database information.
>> Finally, we'll use a plug-in to run a database search and replace to update
all the references to the old URL.
Now that we have our theoretical overview,
let's move forward with doing the actual migration.
