Appearing at conferences and other events are great ways to raise your profile and share your message with new audiences. Don't be afraid to get on stage, or organize your own event.

This next wave to move beyond the blog may scare most of you.
0:00
Public speaking is something that most people are scared to do,
0:03
but if you want to take things to the next level,
0:07
getting on stage in front of an audience is an amazing way to build your audience.
0:09
How are you going to find those things?
0:14
You're going to speak to the organizers whenever you go to an event.
0:16
It doesn't matter if it's a small social gathering or a big conference.
0:19
Find the organizers and talk to them. Ask them how they pick their speakers.
0:23
Sometimes, there's a proposal process. Sometimes, they just go out and ask.
0:27
Sometimes, the person who raises their hand gets picked.
0:31
A great way to start if you're scared to get up on stage by yourself is find panels,
0:35
lots and lots of conferences and panel conversations,
0:39
and trust me, it’s not as intimidating as it might sound
0:42
to sit on this table and argue with other people.
0:45
It's a lot of fun actually, but go out there
0:47
and find those events when you’re attending them and talk to them.
0:49
Beyond speaking to event organizers, one tool I like to use is called Lanyrd.
0:52
It's a website and an app that focuses on events
0:57
happening in your area and around the globe.
1:00
Why I love it is you can put in topics
1:03
that you want to speak on or types of attendees.
1:05
You can also see where your friends are going for events.
1:07
And then you can start looking at these events. Go out to their websites.
1:09
Do they have a speaker proposal time? Do they have a way to submit your ideas?
1:13
And you can start there.
1:17
Taking the stage is a really great way to move beyond the blog.
1:20
People see you. They interact with you.
1:24
They’re going to come up and talk to you afterwards.
1:26
You’re going to hand them your business card, and who knows, maybe eventually
1:27
as you become a thought leader, you write that book, and you get on stage,
1:30
maybe someday you'll be right here in front of the cameras
1:34
doing your own video class.
