So no matter what you've been blogging about,
0:00
you're writing on a regular basis.
0:02
Perhaps the next step is to break out beyond the blog
0:04
and actually write your own book.
0:06
Now, the publishing world is going through these epic changes right now.
0:09
The question of traditional versus self-publishing is something that
0:13
everybody is trying to figure out, but you do have options.
0:15
Something to think about is if you're going to go the traditional route,
0:20
you really got to have a solid idea that you can write 60,000 to 70,000 words for.
0:22
Go figure out if you have just a simple idea or something big enough for that.
0:29
Do a book proposal. Send it to a couple of publishers.
0:34
If you're out there at these events and you meet publishers, talk to them about it.
0:37
Say--Hey, I thought about writing a book, what do you think about it?
0:40
The more people you need,
0:43
the more conversations you have, the easier this will become.
0:45
The other option is self-publishing.
0:49
All these platforms now make it possible
0:51
so that if you written the book, you can hit publish.
0:53
The nice thing though, is if you're self-publishing,
0:57
you determine how long it is.
1:00
There is no right or wrong answer.
1:02
While when you think about a hard cover or a paper book,
1:04
how big we're talking about.
1:06
With an eBook, it's as long as you want it to be
1:08
and you can figure out--
1:10
wow, do I want to make this eBook in power point or keynote.
1:12
It doesn't have to be in Word, you can do pictures and images and videos.
1:15
The options are amazing.
1:19
Our eReaders today, our iPads, and our Kindles.
1:21
What we can do for what is a "book" is changing everyday.
1:24
But once you build enough of an audience
1:29
and you have people who are going to support you,
1:31
when you release whatever it is, your audience will get even bigger
1:33
once you published a book or an eBook.
1:37
Sky is the limit. We can publish as much as we want today.
1:40
The traditional people may force us to put it on book shelves,
1:43
but with the self-publishing route, we can do whatever we want.
1:46
So think about it, may be take your first year of blog post,
1:49
put them together in an eBook and hit publish.
1:53
Sell it for 99 cents or put it out there for free.
1:55
There's lots of options and there's no wrong way to do it,
1:57
but one thing I can tell you,
2:01
if you do put a book out or they're self-published or traditional,
2:03
is gong to open up all the content you create to an entire new audience.
2:06
People who don't read blogs, people who just read.
2:11
I promise you it's going to bring the amount of ??? work
2:15
that you didn't know were there, and in turn,
2:17
they're going to start reading your blog, and your thought leadership
2:19
and your exposure and your content marketing
2:21
is going to be taken to a whole new level.
