[MUSIC] 0:00 Hey team, my name is Michelle Zohlman. 0:09 My pronouns are she/ her. 0:12 I work as the Training Program Manager here at Treehouse. 0:14 Welcome to your intro to gender and sexuality seminar where you guessed it. 0:18 We'll be breaking down some questions you have about gender and sexuality. 0:23 You may have asked yourself, [SOUND] what are pronouns? 0:28 [SOUND] How do when, and how to use them? 0:31 [SOUND] How does this apply to tech? 0:35 [SOUND] Or what does inclusion look like for these identities? 0:37 Well, today we're going to answer those questions together. 0:41 Whenever we educate ourselves on equity, diversity and inclusion, 0:46 we may get a little nervous or uncomfortable. 0:50 I get it, that's okay. 0:53 I encourage you to lean into that today, so that we can learn more about gender and 0:56 sexuality as it relates to our peers and ourselves. 1:01 Before we jump in, I wanna share Community Foundations. 1:05 Think of these as guidelines to the content and 1:09 conversations you may have with folks in the future. 1:12 [SOUND] Be open to new ideas and perspectives. 1:16 Some of this information may be new to you, you may not agree with it. 1:21 Try to challenge yourself to learn something new and lean into empathy. 1:25 [SOUND] Recognize and name your triggers. 1:31 Some content may bring up feelings for you, good and bad. 1:35 It's important to check in with yourself while learning about equity, diversity and 1:39 inclusion. 1:43 If you need to, pause and take a break. 1:44 [SOUND] Brave Space. 1:47 I personally don't like to use the term safe space, instead, I use brave space. 1:51 I asked you to join me in creating a brave space where we can step into discomfort, 1:57 be supportive, and authentic. 2:03 [SOUND] Trust the process. 2:05 This simply means trust where we're going in this training and 2:08 be as present as possible. 2:12 I know there may be distractions happening around you, but 2:14 embrace this opportunity to learn and have fun throughout it, this is essential work. 2:18 Are you ready? 2:24 Let's start by discussing gender in the next video. 2:25
