In this video we will import our selected sketches into Adobe Illustrator and bring them to life through vector. We will then narrow down the designs until we get a final layout.

When creating logos,
0:00
make sure to create them one color first.
0:01
The reason is down the line most likely
we're gonna need a one
0:05
color representation of the logo, so it's
easier to design for
0:08
it now, than to design for it later.
0:12
Let's get started.
0:15
For this next step I'm going to be using
Adobe Illustrator.
0:17
If you're absolutely new to Adobe
Illustrator,
0:20
please check out our Adobe Illustrator
course here at Treehouse.
0:23
I covered just about every tool and panel
in the application.
0:26
For this project I'm only going to use a
couple of tools and techniques.
0:30
Mainly the pen tool and selection tool.
0:35
Let's get started.
0:38
Our first step is going to be importing
our images that I took with my phone.
0:39
The second step is to locate all of the
images that I circled and
0:44
begin to build the logos out using the pen
tools and shape tools.
0:48
Take not that during this process, I want
to get the basic layout built.
0:52
Don't worry about getting perfect detail,
but
0:57
at the same time, don't be sloppy about
it.
1:00
Now it's time to narrow down my
selections.
1:03
Some of the ideas that I put down on
paper,
1:05
just don't seem to work after getting them
built out in illustrator.
1:08
This is when I start to narrow the design
directions down.
1:11
The two on the top left started to look a
little bit like records to me.
1:14
So that's not gonna work.
1:19
The one in the top right's a little too
bubbly, then I might start mixing and
1:20
matching the layouts to see what works.
1:25
Essentially all I'm doing is playing the
comparison game until I'm
1:28
left with a winner.
1:31
When comparing, all I'm trying to do is
find fault and
1:33
weigh out a champion over another.
1:37
Then I'm left with the one winner.
1:39
I am not done just yet though, now it is
time to give it the quality test.
1:42
Is it simple?
1:47
Yes.
1:48
Is it appropriate?
1:49
Yes.
1:50
Does it appear to be timeless?
1:51
As of right now, yeah, sure.
1:52
Is it scalable?
1:55
Not really.
1:57
You can see when it gets scaled down, we
lose the center voids.
1:58
To fix this, all we have to do is thin out
the letters.
2:02
Perfect.
2:06
Now finally save out the project if you
haven't already.
2:07
Next up, we're gonna add some color to our
design.
