Activity: Watch Field Observation sessions1:38 with Tomer Sharon
Your activity is to watch two videos of field observations held at a grocery store and write down your observations.
As I mentioned in the beginning of this stage, there are multiple names and 0:00 flavors for field observations. 0:04 What you'll do next is practice data collection in two very different flavors. 0:07 Your activity is to watch two videos of field observations held at a Stop and 0:13 Shop grocery store in New Jersey and write down your observations. 0:18 Do that with the list of things to look for I introduced earlier. 0:23 The links to these two videos have been provided in 0:28 the notes section of this video. 0:31 In the first video, I asked the study participant to think out loud and 0:34 describe what she was doing and why. 0:39 When she talked about things she would do I asked her to show me how she does them. 0:41 When I had a question I asked her. 0:47 Now watch the video and 0:50 identify as many things worth paying attention to as possible. 0:51 Don't overanalyze things. 0:55 And don"t think of how what you see can be translated into features and products. 0:58 Focus on gathering insights. 1:03 In the second video, I ask the participant to completely ignore me. 1:06 I didn't ask her to think out loud nor did I ask her any question. 1:11 Watch this session and try to look for 1:17 routines, interactions, interruptions, shortcuts, context, habits, 1:19 rituals, jargon, annoyances, the lights, transitions, and artifacts. 1:25 Go ahead and 1:32 watch those videos now, and when you come back, we'll recap this activity. 1:33
