Using Widgets to Help with SEO1:40 with Zac Gordon
In this video we look at a few ways to use Widgets to help improve SEO through social network interactions.
In general the actual content that is displayed in the widget areas
is not necessarily going to help you a lot in terms of indexing your site.
However, if these are links, for example what we've shown in categories or
in menus, they can be helpful.
Another helpful way to use widgets for search engine purposes
is to get people interactive with you in terms of social sign ups.
So we have jetpack installed and we can see a few a options here such as blog
subscriptions, or the Facebook like box, or even the contact info.
Which could help people interact with you and draw in more search engine rankings
over all in the long run in terms of building your community.
We could also do something like go to Twitter and
get a follow button which we could copy And
paste into a general text box, here.
Save and come and view.
And then we could see a button to follow here on Twitter.
So setting up the widgets and the sidebar areas to have extra information
that will tie you to social networks or get people to sign up for newsletters, or
just in general build your overall community, can be helpful to your site.
However, putting a long block of text here that has keywords in it
will not necessarily help as much, and is not really the direction you want to go
in terms of how to best use widgets and sidebar areas.
