[applause] 0:05 I'm really happy to be here today and to talk to you guys about culture 0:11 because it's very, very precious to me. 0:15 It's more precious than money so it keeps me going. 0:17 It's what I love. 0:19 So I want to start with a personal story, 0:21 and it's a little embarrassing for me. 0:24 I was very early in my career, 0:28 and I worked for a company that was moderately successful 0:31 that was full of very talented people. 0:35 They worked very hard. 0:38 They had good values. 0:40 But it was still a very, very challenging place to work. 0:42 People could use an environment toxic, right? 0:46 It was a toxic environment. 0:49 People would leave maybe crying once a week. 0:50 There was a lot of passive aggressive email going around. 0:53 There were these shifting cold wars 0:57 where it's like, "Oh, I guess so-and-so is not talking to so-and-so, 1:00 and if I talk to them then they're going to think I'm somehow not being loyal." 1:04 It was a very—it was a lot of wasted energy. 1:07 I mean just tons and tons of worry and time spent 1:12 like, "Why are they doing that? 1:17 Why can't we just do things like normal people?" 1:19 Just a lot of effort that wasn't productive. 1:22 You guys don't know me very well—some of you know me very well. 1:26 Most of you don't know me very well, and I am not usually this— 1:31 I mean—I am a hippy, but I'm not this hippy dippy. 1:34 I was working there, and I had a dream, 1:37 and it was one of these dreams that's very emotionally potent. 1:42 It doesn't happen very often, but once or twice a year 1:45 I'll have a dream where I fight with my husband, 1:49 and I'll wake up still mad at him. 1:53 And I'll be like, "Man, honey, I can't believe you." 1:54 And it takes like a half an hour for it to wear off slowly. 1:56 Or you'll have a dream that a good friend moves away, and you're very sad. 2:00 Well, in this dream—I had a dream that I quit my job. 2:03 I quit my job, and I was so happy. 2:07 I started laughing—I started laughing, and I woke 2:10
