Comments in WordPress2:33 with Zac Gordon
WordPress gives you the option out of the box to let visitors leave comments on posts and pages. As a website owner you have the ability to moderate comments or close them completely. In this video we will go over the basic options for setting up and moderating comments.
[Zac Gordon] When a visitor comes to our site and visits our blog,
clicks on an individual post, and scrolls down,
they see an option to leave a comment.
Notice that the name of the person as well as their Email are required.
They will also have to add a comment which is the actual reply and then click post comment.
Once they do that, they should see their comment appear
as well as a message saying that their comment is awaiting moderation.
Once somebody adds a comment to your site, you will likely get an Email telling you to log in and moderate the comment.
When we log in to our site, we could see that we have a new comment
and that we could edit it directly from the homepage of our admin area.
We have a few options: we could choose to approve it, have it go live on the site, mark it as spam
so that it will log that user in IP address against future spam possibilities, throw it directly into the trash, edit the comment
in case we find a single word or phrase that shouldn't really be in there
or we could come back and reply to the comment directly from our admin area
We'll choose to go ahead and approve the comment, come over to the article, click to view it on the front end of our site,
and scroll down and we could see that they have their comment here.
We have two options when posting comments.
We could either add a new comment or we could choose to reply to an existing comment.
If we do this,
then our comment will show as a reply to somebody else's.
You'll also notice that when we're logged in, we don't have to fill out our name and Email or wait for moderation.
