General Discussion

A "sticky" thread to help forum users?

Looking at many posts on here I think it would be beneficial to have a "sticky" (always at the top) thread with advice on basic things like including/formatting code examples and adding links.

I know we have the "tips" video but in it's current position it is easily missed/ignored. Perhaps the thread could link to that video as well!

People could then ask questions about using the forum in that thread - adding a single place for advice on the using forum. If there were questions that frequently came up they could be added into the first post as a type of FAQ.

What do you think?

Excellent idea,

I'd also like to see less answers being posted in the comments section, it makes it appear no one has answered a post but you select it and 2 or 3 people have answered in the comment box.

Advise people to paste the full question they are having trouble with would be helpful too.

Good idea. For the markdown, how do you specify / show Objective C code or is it the same markdown as C?

Also, how do you mark a question as answered? I see some questions with a checkmark but don't know how to mark my own questions as answered.

I think it's a great idea

Thanks James Barnett, do you know who would be best to contact about making this a reality (other than the help form)?

Is that not what they tried with the Featured thread, it's not exactly the same mind.

Ah, I didn't even notice the featured section.... that goes someone to explaining my point though. There should be something at the top of the main forum page with basic instructions where people can also ask for help relating to the forum itself.

There's the video at bottom of the page (mobile version)

Good idea :)
