PHP

Advancing in PHP

I've got a general knowledge of PHP, which is fantastic. I am thoroughly enjoying the language and I know what can be done with it. Is the 'Build a Simple PHP Application' and 'Enhancing a Simple PHP Application' the only PHP content available here at Treehouse?

I've noticed that even in the bonus content there is so much for Ruby / Ruby on Rails and if there is more PHP content I wish to view and learn.

I am excited to get on with it, with things such as classes and looking into building proper applications but only basic knowledge has been taught here so far.

Hey Matthew, Those are the only PHP tutorials we have right now, but I am working on more as we speak. I just wish I could make them faster! :-)

Thank you Randy, love your videos! You also have a soothing voice. I hope you are working on more complex projects, that include classes and more complex php functions and features.

Is it possible to have some form of contact method to yourself?

Thank you.

Great to hear Randy! Thanks and keep up the great work!

Matthew Dixon You can always reach out to me here on the forum or on Twitter at @randyhoyt.

Yes! More PHP to learn. Thanks a lot!

Yay! I'm so glad to see this!

I've enjoyed the first two courses (even though I had prior knowledge meant I could skip some stuff I enjoyed every second) and followed them happily picking up new bits of information as I went. It saddens me though that I'm nearing the end of the second and can't wait for more!

Do you have any hints what will be contained? More Object-Orientated and MVC stuff would be nice hint

Randy Hoyt isn't it ideal to do a store like Shirts 4 Mike in a database? It might be nice maybe as a deep dive to show how you can use databases for this, just as a added extra.

The next set of tutorials I'm working on right now involve moving the products into a database. We'll have two tables, one for products and one for products_sizes, and we'll walk through modifying our model code to retrieve the data from those two tables.

Ah, that's nice! Maybe an optional ability to create an internal cart or even an Ajax cart I think people would love that, i would love to help you but yeah thanks anyways I'm sure people will love it, I'm just loving the challenges and tasks doing them myself then watching your videos to see how I can clean my code. Php is all about the logical :)

Thanks Randy

Outstanding to hear Randy,

glad to hear you are working on more. Before I seen this post I actually just sent an email to treehouse asking the same question.

Can't wait. Definitely want some more PHP!

Yes! Cant wait for more PHP tutorials!

Here's 2 YouTube channels that do really good php tutorial videos that I subscribe to:

Better PHP - http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXtwYCdt9V5SjZ3_a-ECNrw

PHP Academy - http://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpOIUW62tnJTtpWFABxWZ8g

They don't have too much really advanced stuff but like I said they make good videos and are worth checking out. I agree with you though that I'd love to see more PHP videos here at TreeHouse. I would like to learn more Ruby as well but I can put PHP to immediate use so it's something I'm more interested in.

Thank you for replying Adam,

I am already familiar with 'phpacademy' however, i feel that there useful tutorials are outdated and coded badly, but everyone improves. Meaning that there most recent insights and tips are fantastic but are better if you are familiar with the language on a larger scale.

Furthermore, i will look into 'Better PHP', hopefully there are some better tutorials here and more up to date.

I have great knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript and making websites is not an issue for me, however creating a CMS behind my website and a user panel ect in some projects would be ideal. Therefore i want to develop my knowledge in this language.

I feel that TreeHouse has fantastic potential and basic tutorials and they can target a larger target audience and gain more subscribers if they also did larger scale videos with more advanced tutorials. Where instead of learning the basics of a language you can develop and learn the entire language. Not only this i feel that users should have the ability to create there own tutorials and projects to there profiles and you can do a general search and learn more.

Communities like this, we all want to learn different things. Many of us already know different things in comparison to others and sharing this ability would be key.

Hi Mathew, Here's a website which contains an extensive collection of php tutorials which you may find useful until Treehouse create some more - http://www.developphp.com

P.S - Hurry up Randy :P
