8,712 Points[ATTENTION] Treehouse Webserver Issues? (Please Read)
Hello everyone,
For the last few months, I've been experiencing some frequent issues with the Treehouse website sometimes not loading or responding. Because this issue was so persistent, I decided to reach out to the Treehouse staff about this and they asked me to forward this inquiry with the rest of the Treehouse community to see if this issue affects others as well.
The issues I've noticed are:
- Submitting a code-challenge sometimes stalls and forces you to restart it.
- Upvoting a post on the forum returns a message saying there was an error in counting your vote.
- Submitting a new comment, reply or topic sends you to a white page with a message saying that the server is busy.
- Editing an existing comment, reply or topic sends you to a white page with a message saying that the server is busy.
In all of the above, simply trying again usually works, but if you are posting a topic or a forum reply and get this error, your message is lost and you'd have to rewrite it.
If you recognize any of the above events, please reply below and include any detailed information you can provide, such as what browser you're using, how frequent these issues are, etc. If you haven't had any of these issues, then please state that also.
Thank you.

6,421 PointsMarc Cook I looked into your errors
- the workspace attached to Element States Pseudo-Classes loaded up just fine for me. Could you mail our support team (support@teamtreehouse.com) a screenshot of what you are seeing?
Directions on taking a screenshot
- When the code challenges "freeze" for you, when does that happen? When the page loads? After clicking a button?
Marc Cook
4,610 PointsSo, I figured out the " teamtreehousesays: not authorized" issue. I had to delete some workspaces which I didn't know I had to do, ha. For the freezing issue. This is completely random, It usually happens after clicking the "Submit" button. It will usually load for about 30 secs then it will say "treehouse has encountered and error" and will restart the challenge. Say, if the challenge has 3 parts, Sometimes it doesn't happen till the last challenge and I'll have to start completely over again. I've learned to copy my code on challenges to get around this obstacle. Thanks for looking into this and let me know if you need more info. Good luck!

6,421 PointsMarc Cook I opened an issue to look at the error messages when you try to start another workspace when you are at your limit. I hope we can make that better.

We have been working to trace the reason behind this errors down for a while. We have some strong leads on what the problem is and we are working on solutions to see if that addresses it. It's been a long process.
For now the only workaround is when you the error message, hit the "x" on the right upper corner and try again.
Sorry for the hassle.

Submitting a code-challenge sometimes stalls and forces you to restart it
Christian Andersson
8,712 PointsThanks for your input Colton. How frequently would you say this happens?
Colton Ehrman
Courses Plus Student 5,859 PointsSo far none today, but yesterday it happened about 10 times. There is another thing that's kind of annoying (which happens pretty much all the time) is when I click submit answer, it won't register and I have to click several times, and the whole process is just slow and glitchy I think.
Christian Andersson
8,712 PointsAre you referring to the quizzes Colton?
Colton Ehrman
Courses Plus Student 5,859 PointsMainly the code challenges, but the quizzes also have a little glitchiness, but not nearly as bad as the challenges.

Does this refer to the "Oh no, There was a communication problem!" alert?
In that case it has happened quite often in the past week, and students have been sharing their experience on the forum.
Chris Upjohn actually had an answer for it, he said that when the alert appears simply click below the modal or window (I believe in the text editor area) and this should allow the challenge to pass.
I use Google Chrome on Macbook and have many tabs open on Treehouse.
Christian Andersson
8,712 PointsYes Tommy Gebru.

2,769 PointsI just returned but I did run into this issue already. I'm using Google Chrome and I had just a couple tabs that wouldn't load (both for teamtreehouse) after a minute or so they came up with a refresh.

32,615 PointsI've had to restart code challenges and quizzes with a fair amount of frequency. I would say about 20% of the time.

16,594 Pointsyes I have had the same issues. Sometimes quite frequently. I have had to redo challenges for several days before I can get it to accept. And several times a week on the website busy issue. I thought it was my crappy pc though.
Christopher Sumpter
18,007 PointsI also occasionally have the glitch on the code challenges. I use Chrome. Often, I will try multiple times and get the same response. On those occasions, I usually leave and come back 30 minutes later and try again. It always eventually goes through, but sometimes only after many, many attempts.

Christian Andersson
8,712 PointsThanks for your input Melvin. Can you give us an estimate on how frequently this happens? Some have estimated it to happen around 20% of the time. Would you say that's accurate in your case?
MELVIN GEORGE

I've been on Treehouse every day since last Monday 6/22. However, I only experienced this issue Thursday 6/25. I haven't had a problem before or since and I have not experienced any of the other issues.

16,105 PointsYes I have been getting similar issues especially with code challenges in the browser (Chrome) It happens one of two ways:
- Sometimes when the challenge loads it doesn't seem to load fully ("Check work" is greyed out) - about 5% of the time
- Other times I can go through 1-2 stages of the code challenge, but when I try to submit it says that there is an error - 20-25% of the time.
In addition: I also get issues on the iPad with the code challenges, and more frequently. iPad errors also happen to quizzes. I sometimes tap on an answer and it says there's an error and I have to restart the quiz. I'd say that happened 30-40% of the time on iPad (one of the above errors).

6,421 PointsChristian Andersson Thanks for bring this up. We've taken a look at what could be causing these problems and are working towards addressing them.
I'll post here as I have updates.
ps - you guys are really dedicated to keep pushing through all these errors.

8,712 PointsMyers Carpenter , has there been any progress on this issue? I still have issues 2 months after this was reported (and have had issues another few months before I posted).
So what's the status of this issue?
Myers Carpenter
6,421 PointsI'm working on the Code Challenges timeouts while juggling other feature requests. Progress is being made but not as quickly as I would have hoped. We will fix this. Sorry I can't give you a definite time.
Christian Andersson
8,712 PointsJust hopping in here to say that the problems seem to persist on the forums and without any noticable improvement. I was replying to a post today and got a "website busy" http error. I could finally submit my reply on my 4th attempt.

7,670 PointsI'm working on CHROME on a MAC. This issue keeps recurring today for the quiz under Object Oriented Javascript: Implement the subtract method. I usually don't have issues, just today for some reason. Thank you much for looking into this!

6,421 PointsJessica Jimenez Hageman We just rolled out an update that included an upgrade to our ruby version. I think that was the cause of your problems.
Melissa Donahue
1,615 PointsYES! this issue is STILL happening! I'm not going to continue my subscription and will move onto other coding companies with better sites!

6,421 PointsHey @melissadonahue,
I'm sorry to hear you are having problems. In this topic we've talked about a lot of different problems with the site. Could you tell me specifically what you are seeing?
Thanks!

4,610 PointsThis has been a frequent problem I have had as well. I use chrome mostly and seems to freeze when doing a code challenge. I have also encountered another issue. While trying to follow Guil in the Element States Pseudo-Classes lesson video, every time I try to launch workspace it gives me and error stating " teamtreehousesays: not authorized" . This is on the second to last video on this section and would love to finish. Why is this? is this a webserver issue?
