Forum Contest: Design a Rebrand

EDIT: This contest has ended!

Hi everybody,

It's time for a new Treehouse Forum contest! First, watch this video to learn more:

After you've watched the video, please read the details below carefully. I'm looking forward to your entries!

How to Enter:

Post a link to your work as an answer to this forum post. You can host it anywhere you'd like, as long as it's easy to see your work (no zip files, please).

Due Date: All entries must be submitted by Sunday, November 2nd at 11:45pm ET. Here's a timezone chart so you can see what time that is for your locale.

Prize: The entries will be judged by Treehouse teachers based on design, originality, and overall organization. One winner will receive a free month of Treehouse on us! :) We'll announce the winner on Monday, November 3rd and reveal the next contest.

Do we have to only do like style guide or would we need to rebrand their website etc. ?

Tunde Adegoroye,

The more the better. Entries that feel more complete (i.e. have more materials demonstrating that a brand is more than just the logo) will likely score higher. A style guide, a website, or both, would be great!

This should be fun. I have a huge rebrand project coming up soon anyway, so this should help me get the creative juices flowing. Looking forward to everyone's entries.

For this contest, I decided to do a rebrand of Ello. You can find this project on my Behance portfolio here: http://bit.ly/1w6b3sf

Thanks!

Nice work :) looks better than the actual site haha

I agree with Tunde Adegoroye. This looks like a much better user experience. I was kind of bummed, once I joined ello, about how crappy the whole design was. Your ideas are great. Nice work!

Lovely redesign! It's great how you've kept Ello's intention of really clean visual simplicity, but actually made it into something the user can follow and interpret. I really hope someone at Ello is also a forum-browsing member of Treehouse. :)

Just out of curiosity, why does the link on your web browser mockup say www.jacobsawensten.com?

CJ Williams and Amber Cookman - My plan was to stick with the idea of simplified social networking and make it much more intuitive and inviting. Thanks for the feedback! And yes, it would be cool if they happened to be an active member of the Treehouse forum ;)

Here is my version of the weather app i rebranded it's name and feel here's the files link Files here is the bechance link to see the shots Weather app Behance i will also be developing this app as well hope you guys like it :)

I really like the color-coded daily forecasts. Great idea!

Thanks Hi 5 !

Thanks man :)

I love the challenges you give us each week but would it be too much to ask for an IOS challenge? I'd love to have a challenge based on Swift.

Good luck to all who enter!

Hey everyone!

We'd like to see a few more entries for this contest before we close it out, so we're extending the deadline by 1 week. Let me know if you have any questions! :)

Hey everyone,

Thanks for participating this week! All the entries were pretty great, but I do have to pick a winner. :)

This week's prize goes to Ashley Galante for her rebrand of Ello. Design (in the general sense of the word) should do more than just decorate; it should solve a problem. This particular rebrand did just that, by making Ello, a social network, much more inviting than it is currently. The aesthetics and overall completeness were solid as well.

I also want to announce that this will be our last forum contest for the foreseeable future. We have a lot of other ideas about how students at Treehouse can demonstrate their abilities, so we want to take a hiatus and evaluate forum contests in their current format. Thank you all for participating in these over the last several months! If we don't do more forum contests in the future, we'll do something similar, I'm sure. Stay tuned. :)

Nooo! I love forum contests :( It was a great motivation to practice what you've learnt, especially if it was quite a while ago. It was awesome to learn from other people and also to see how you compare against your peers. Hopefully whatever is replacing forum contests will be even more awesome...

Oh that's too bad :( I was looking forward to participating once my skills were good enough. (And to be honest, I never even cared about the prize either... I just didn't participate because I don't know how to do most of the tasks...yet!)

The prize is not motivating + it is the same every-time.

Hi Bahi Hussein,

What would motivate you instead? We could mail out t-shirts instead of giving a free month of Treehouse Pro. Let us know. :)

(Agree with Holt Hunter)T-shirts would be a good idea. Also if there are some treehouse items like special badges that could be added to achievements.

and for thus who collaborate on the forum, should have special pages and roles. Points and free months is not enough as long as many members can get them independently.

Thank you for your respond.

To be honest if the only reason you take these competitions is to win a prize. Then you should find a different line of work. I mean honestly What Should motivate you is the actual work/learning experience. Not ("oh i get a tee shirt "). Besides a tee only costs at the most 30$, wheres you are getting a free month of learning for 45$. I think that is way more valuable!!

Agree with toddschneider , it's not about the prize, save the environment and keep it like it is.

Hi, toddschneider. please check the task based method of teaching. Reward and reinforcement are basic elements in the teaching process. In addition, some students are more driven with reward and reinforcement while others are driving with their own values. So, it is not a standard or fixed view to judge others depending on an opinion. Also, students has different abilities, some of them may think that this task is very simple and not challenging others may find it challenging, so to encourage all students to participate you have to use some reinforcement methods.

===

About the reward, you have mentioned that t-shirt costs 30$ i think and the month costs 45$, Well, it is not about money, it is about value and feeling that you belong to great educational community. Treehouse badges and t-shirts are amazing. It is like getting a gift from your best movie star or football player.

===

Thank for your comments toddschneider and Michael Liquori. I hope you got my point of view, Wish you all the best

I thank you for your comment Bahi Hussein. But I still agree with my previous statement. Not that awards aren't all well and good. But look at it like this. Is a treehouse tee, or a treehouse badge going to be what gets you a job? Or is it going to be that extra month of learning how to program a Android app?

Again Thanks for your comment. I wish you all the best!
