Design

Graphic design?

Hi. Is there currently, or will there ever be lessons/tracks available that focus on graphic design? (e.g photoshop, illustrator, colour theory, composition & typography).

Thanks

Hi Ian, there are actually some courses on this. I'm not sure if you've yet a chance to check out the Design section, but below I've selected a few courses I thought you might be interested in.

P.S. I went ahead and changed the topic to Design.

I would recommend a couple of courses that help me a lot:

+Lettering Made Simple: Efficient Methods for Custom Type by Brandon Rike

+Typography That Works: Typographic Composition and Fonts by Ellen Lupton

+Basics of Photoshop: Fundamentals for Beginners by Meg Lewis

and

+Drawing Vector Graphics by Von Glitschka on Lynda.com

+Drawing Vector Graphics: Color and Detail on Lynda.com

best of luck!

Thanks for all the links, Dustin. Treehouse really does have everything.

I just added Mat Helme's Exercise Your Creative bonus content series to the list. Thought you might like that one also.

Ian -- I am a self-taught graphic designer and have to say the course Dustin pointed you to are outstanding. They cover the concepts that will set you down the right path. I am currently going through some of these courses as part of my Web Design track and have found them to be wonderful refreshers.

If you are looking for any book recommendations I would be happy to give some but TH has covered the foundations very well!

I'm curious what books you would recommend

For the foundations of design I would recommend: Graphic Design School by Dabner.

Learning how to use the Adobe programs I would recommend the Adobe ______ Classroom in a book series.

And for a great read about going into the design world, How to Be a Graphic Designer without Losing Your Soul.

I have found these to be useful books but see that tree house is doing an outstanding job at covering most of the information in these books.

Here's a couple I purchased a while back. Anything by Timothy Samara is usually good.
