How to build a Wordpress theme - testimonials (did I miss a video?)

Hi,

I'm at the "Adding Content in Custom Places" video in the "Extending WordPress Template Functionality" section. Having tried to get the testimonials to display and failed, it turns out I haven't created any actual testimonials to show.

Did I miss a video where Zac does this? I know in the final video of the first section he says to add the custom content, but in all the supplied zip files there was nothing regarding the testimonials.

Is it implied that you'll know what the testimonials are or am I missing content?

Thanks all, and have a lovely weekend :)

There was a video missing when we went through the course, I guess it was when they were switching over the database, it has now been added and covers everything - http://teamtreehouse.com/library/how-to-build-a-wordpress-theme/content-strategy-with-wordpress/adding-custom-content-to-the-site

This video didn't do anything to tell me about the testimonials though, or was I missing something?

No you are correct. This video only shows adding the custom work and testimonials fields but the video ends there. It does not show you what the content is so you can then go ahead, create and publish each of the work projects and testimonials. I have just given up and used lorem ipsum.

Right at the end, literally the last 10 seconds, he says "now you can download the demo content and add it into your WordPress site...", there aren't any files attached to that video but there are at the start of each stage. The thing that had been confusing me most was where did the custom fields come from in the first place, you can easily add in the extra content but not if there's nowhere to put it. I've been building my own site and this was giving me a headache!

I've just wasted over an hour on this same question relating to the 'work' custom fields.

The 'work' and 'testimonials' are in the project files but they're in the database_wp_portfolio.sql file (at least they are in the Stage 4 download files). I'm not sure if the content is supposed to load automatically but it didn't for me, I had to copy and paste the code from that file into the SQL query window under the phpMyAdmin tab and run it to to add them into the wp_portfolio database.

To be honest, I can't believe that this is what we're supposed to do because it's far too complicated for it to not even be mentioned in the videos, but it's the only way I've been able to make it work...

I agree completely. I enjoyed the course but for me there was a lack of clarity on a few things, especially the testimonials and putting in the custom content. It doesn't need it's own video, just some detailed instructions about where all the resources are and what to do with the contents.

That's a problem I've had with multiple courses I've done on here. I love the new layout of the site/app, but I do feel that having a single resources page for each project with all the possible downloads (obviously detailing which video/stage they apply to) would be the best way for Treehouse to clean the process up and make everything a bit easier for users.

Thanks Andrew Foster for figuring that out. I couldn't figure this out either and I was copying the content by pausing the videos and that was a real pain.

Ok so it's not just me then. Thanks Andrew, now I can stop clicking in and out of Videos to see if there was something I missed!
