New forum feature available: Attach Your Code from Code Challenges

Hi everyone!

We've rolled out a new feature today that we hope you'll find useful!

As of today, when you are working on a code challenge and have questions related to that code challenge, using the "Ask a Question" feature to post to the forum from that page will allow you to attach your code automatically to your post. This means no having to copy and paste and no worrying about getting Markdown formatting wrong :)

All you need to do is make sure the checkbox for "Attach my code to this post" is checked and we'll have you covered!

You can preview your post using the Preview button before posting to see what the post will look like with your attached code in place, in case you're curious.

Each file from the code challenge will be labeled with its file name to give other students context and to simplify any troubleshooting and debugging.

Still want to make modifications to your code? No worries! You can still edit your post, where the code (and its properly formatted Markdown) will be at your fingertips to alter if you should need to do so.

That's a nice feature :)

Aimee Ault:

This great feature needs to be attached to all the individual lessons in every track in the library, too, & not just the Code Challenges (objectives & questions). It would be great if the appropriate detailed & accurate instructions were posted in the Workspaces header & remain stationery at the top of the Workspaces page. People tend to forget how to post their code from their Code Challenges frequently. It makes it difficult for everyone to help Team Treehouse students. It's time consuming to ask a student to post their code on the community page when they don't know how to do it from the beginning or when they forget how to do it. This knowledge is otherwise "buried" here in the General Discussion section of the Community page & new students don't know to look for this wonderful feature here unless they've seen it before. Hope this helps everyone!

Great feature! Nice work Team Treehouse!

This is so great! It will certainly make posting code a lot easier for people who aren't familiar with how to do it with markdown!

Great job Treehouse Team keep up the good work!

That's awesome, but i'll also like the question to be added with the code. Sometimes it is hard to locate what is the question especially when the labels are misplaced.

Hi Gloria, as far as I'm aware it will be included. When the code is included it will also tell you the name of the course they are on and the challenge.

Oh okay. Thanks Luke :)

Luke Glazebrook I just checked it and it does not attach the question to it. I will like both to be on the same page, for me it is a better user experience to add the question combined with the answer of the student who asks instead of having the students that are planning to answer have to click here and there in addition just to get to the challenge. It saves time if you do this several times. The code itself does not help us help someone if the question is not obviously stated. This change feels the same (as when it was not existing) from the side of the person who plans to answers from my perspective, but definitely makes things more easier on the side of the person who asks.

Edit:

PS. Plus when I click on the related content box "linking" me to the challenge on the right, it always takes me to the 1st task while the person might be asking for the 4th task so I have to solve all 3 to get to the actual question, if it was not written in the forum post.

Good feedback, gloria ! We'll be taking it into consideration to further improve this :)

Thanks Aimee Ault , sounds good :)

Hey Aimee, can the preview be added in there so that people have a better idea at whats wrong with the code? Thanks!
