In this Treehouse quick tip, we're going to look at how to change the home page in your WordPress blog from displaying the latest blog posts, to displaying a static home page instead. This is really helpful when you're using WordPress more as a content management system than just a blogging platform.

Sign up[treehouse presents] 0:00 [Quick Tips: Displaying a Static Homepage In WordPress with Zac Gordon] 0:02 Hi, I'm Zac. 0:05 In this this Treehouse quick tip, 0:07 we're gonna look at how to change the home page 0:09 in your WordPress blog from displaying the latest blog posts, 0:11 to displaying a static home page instead. 0:14 This is really helpful when you're using WordPress 0:17 more as a content management system than just a blogging platform. 0:19 Before we get started we're gonna need to create two pages. 0:24 One that will serve as our home page and the other that will serve as the page 0:28 where all of our blog articles are listed. 0:31 Let's start off by going to Pages, Add New, and creating a page called Home. 0:34 We're going to paste in some dummy content for now, 0:41 but you could always go back and add content that makes sense for your site. 0:44 We'll also add in one image, load it off to the right, put that into the post. 0:51 Now that we have our home page, we'll go back and we'll add 1:00 the page that will serve as the home page for our blog posts. 1:03 ???Call this blog, and you can leave the main content empty 1:07 because WordPress will automatically replace this 1:11 with our most recent posts. 1:13 Now go ahead and click Publish. 1:16 Now that we have both of our pages created 1:18 we're going to go under Appearance, Themes, and then Customize our theme. 1:20 Depending on what theme you have selected, 1:30 you may see different options on the side menu here. 1:32 However, all of them should have a section that says Static Front Page. 1:37 Go ahead and click on that. 1:41 You could see that it's set to have our latest posts on the home page, 1:43 which is what it's currently doing. 1:46 However, we want to switch this to a static page. 1:49 Go ahead and click on Static Page 1:53 and then you're presented with two options here. 1:55 One that asks you what you want your Front Page to be, 1:58 the other that asks where you want your Posts Page to be. 2:01 For front page, go ahead and select Home. 2:04 You can see that it dynamically repopulates the home page 2:09 to show the new page we created. 2:11 For the posts page, go ahead and select Blog. 2:14 Once this is done, click Save and Publish. 2:19 We can now see that if we go to the home page, we see this content here. 2:24 If we click on Blog, then we see all of our blog posts. 2:28 So there you have it. 2:35 A very simple step to change your site from having 2:36 all of your blog posts on the home page, 2:39 to having a static home page. 2:41
