Two people working together on a computer

Hey all! My name is Chris Bowman. I am 47 and work full-time as a Web Content Specialist. I currently work remotely in an RV that my wife and I travel in full-time, seeing all that North America has to offer!

How my story started

I truly am blessed but it didn't really start out that way. I was born with Amniotic Band Syndrome which affected the development of my lower right leg and parts of five fingers among other issues. I spent most of my early adult years doing physical labor jobs, often unable to do them well because of my limitations. At 27, I went on Social Security Disability and lived on around $700 per month for 13 years while also being a single dad to my daughter. To say those years were rough would be an understatement.

What led me to learn with Treehouse

At 39, living in a van I'd bought for $150, I decided I'd had enough of the life that was laid out for me and I looked into learning web development.

Working in the tech industry has its highs and lows, but I'm drawn to the flexibility that accompanies a job that can be done anywhere a computer is present.

How Treehouse advanced my career

I spent the next year and a half learning all that I could, and applying to web related jobs in my area. I finally landed my first Web Content Specialist role where I could use the skills I learned at Treehouse. I was two months shy of my 40th birthday. At 45, I'd been successful enough in my career that my wife and I decided to sell our dream house we'd just bought and hit the road full-time in an RV. We wanted to live that sense of adventure. I'd been hooked on it since my days in the van. The past two years we have traveled and worked remotely from some of the coolest places in the United States.

We run a Youtube channel called Minimal-Ish where we document this journey and have even appeared on the British TV Show "Million Pound Motorhomes."

My next goal is to continue my adventures as an amputee and hopefully motivate others to pursue the life of their dreams through sharing my story with anyone who wants to listen.

Thank you for listening!
