132,143 PointsWhen it comes to computer languages, learning the fundamentals is always best IMHO, e.g. assembly and then something like C; but you can always learn something simpler like Python and Ruby if those meet your needs sooner. 'Best to learn' is really difficult to judge, there is a lot of languages you can learn, it just depends on what your end goal is.

4,391 PointsThere are so many different languages because each one has their strengths and weaknesses. In other words, each language was designed to be able to do particular types of jobs. Because of this, it is hard to say which one you should start learning first, but I would recommend learning one at a time since it can be easy to mix them up while you are learning them.
