General Discussion What is Virtual Reality?

3D Modelling With VR

Wow! Great workshop by Nick Pettit. It helped me gain the foundation and give me a basic understanding of Virtual Reality.

I've been working a lot on 3D modelling recently, and was just trying to imagine how awesome it would be if we could connect to VR, and model it there! It will be much more interactive and user friendly...

I'd love to know everyone's views on this, or if they have seen something similar.

Thanks, and have a nice day!

Hi Samarth,

There's not a lot out there right now for 3D modelling in VR. The big players like Maya and zBrush haven't released any specific details about this, and actually, I imagine it might be some time before they do - their complex interfaces might not translate to VR very easily, so it will probably take some time.

That said, I'm looking forward to the day that I can create 3D models in VR as well. Being able to see the scale of objects in stereo 3D is important, so being able to do a scale-check right in the app would be helpful.

True - Development is probably going to be very tough. I somehow get the feel that this might just allow complete newbies to get more excited about just Making things, and not having to worry about learning the complex functions of the current modelling apps!

Thanks :-)

P.S - Are you planning any courses on the MakerSpace machines, and Arduino - Right now, I get pretty frustrated with hardware and need something with the treehouse teaching style!

No plans for courses on Arduino right now, but that doesn't mean never. :)
