A question for java devs

How is the development of desktop java programmes different from the development of android mobile java applications? What things need to be taken into consideration what are the main differences? Is it an easy transition from android to desktop development?

As an aside I believe there are plans afoot to do a Java track and that might in fact cover a lot of what you're asking too.
