Access dict value by dot notation

In this video, Kenneth says that the method values() returns a list of dictionaries, and we cannot use dot notation to access attributes anymore. Then he still uses course.id in the template, which seems to contradict, and it still works. Why?

Okay, accessing dictionary values by dot notation seems to be part of the template engine, rather than python itself, according to this link: https://docs.djangoproject.com/en/1.11/ref/templates/api/#variables-and-lookups
