Accessing methods inside the function

I'm a little confused about how the goodbye and hellomars methods are accessed from the outside variable awesomeNewMethod For example: awesomeNewMethod.goodbye

What about the exports variable?

The key to this is the set of parentheses after the function that is assigned to the variable awesomeNewModule. Those call or invoke the function, essentially running it, and it is set to return an object with has those methods as properties.

If you don't assign a method to the exports object, then it wouldn't get exported, and would be considered 'private', though that's usually a term associated with object-oriented programming.
