Adding social media buttons?

Does anyone know how to properly add and edit social media buttons? I added Like and Share buttons for Facebook and when I use them they post a bunch of content that I would rather not see, the title isn't what I want, and I would love to change the picture it is choosing. I used all of the meta property tags suggested, added a fb app id, and and admins tag and everything but it still won't work. If anyone can recommend a step-by-step tutorial or if there is one in here already that I am missing that would be great!
