Adobe Photoshop

Worksource Oregon doesn't have Adobe Photoshop on their computers.

I don't know whether or not the Multnomah County Central Library computer lab has Adobe Photoshop on its computers, either. I know they will be upgrading their hardware & software soon.

How can I do the exercises on Adobe Photoshop without a Workspace on this course?

Because Photoshop is a commercial software with strict licensing, there's no way Treehouse can build it into workshop, and technically it's impossible too.

There's no code challenges for this course, only lecture video and quiz, you can follow along perfectly fine without a workstation with Photoshop.

It would be great for Treehouse to partner with Adobe and offer some sort of discount for Treehouse students or allow us to get a student license. But until then you can get a computer and download a free trial or get the Photography plan where you get Photoshop & Lightroom for $9.99/mo + tax.

Thanks too, for checking these things out!

On your own computer, you could download a free trial of Photoshop. It won't last forever (only 30 days, I believe), but if your timing is right it may last long enough for you to learn what you need to know. Adobe does offer Photoshop 2 as a free download, but since that version is so old making it work is difficult.

Here's an article about it how to do it if you'd like to look into it though: http://www.redmondpie.com/download-adobe-photoshop-cs2-for-free-legally-while-you-still-can/

Ha...I'm still using my old Photoshop 7. Gratis CS2? I'll take the upgrade! :D Hmm, regardless of what the blog post mentions, the Adobe site basically says that those download links are still only intended for original CS2 purchasers who still need it to work. Meh...

Thanks Kate, William, & Veronica!

I'm constrained to using WorkSource Oregon computers or Multnomah County Central Library computer lab & Internet computers. I don't own a computer with a current operating system or software.

Kathryn,

You should check out Free Geek in SE Portland. They sell second-hand computer for cheap. Also, if you volunteer there you can build your own computer for free after completing a certain number of hours.

David: I know about Free Geek. As I said, I have constraints which don't allow me to obtain a computer with current OS & software.

Kathryn I've made it all the way up to the photo shop section on an older computer running Ubuntu Linux. The entire OS is a free down load. I installed mine from a 8GB thumb drive, but I think a 2GB will work. Linux seems to be able to do pretty much anything Windows can do, even run some windows programs. Keep asking around, you can eventually find help. I too, have some constraints. Keep fighting the good fight!

Thanks for the advice. I was successful in completing the Adobe Photoshop course. Like I said, I'm constrained to using the WorkSource Oregon computers & the Multnomah County Central Library computer lab.
