Advice on getting started with aws / cloud computing

I'm one of those guys who has used standard hosting up until now, but I really want to get into cloud computing, especially amazon web services.

I went through couple of their intro / tutorial pages, but found myself struggling to understand what certain services do / accomplish.

They offer variety of powerful servers on EC2, yet how do I find out what sort of server I need with them, how to set it all up efficiently, I remember reading posts from people who have different servers set up to handle front end and storage etc..

Are there any good free resources that would help out to understand aws?

Thank you.
