Hello, i would like to show you how Treehouse helped me to build my own portfolio website from scratch, and the evolution. Of course i didn't learn for 6 months full, i studied everytime i could, in my free time.
I am what we still call "Webmaster" in France, working with templates and CMS (Wordpress) everytime. Treehouse made me understand a lot more the code, the concepts behind, and all the tricks i needed to build the design i wanted from scratch.
The first link is the first version, made after old Nick course "How to make a basic website" (Smells like bakery) in January.
The second link is the version 3, updated today, after html/css courses with Nick and Guil !
I hope you will like the little details, and don't forget to look and click at the logo :)
Many, many many thank's to Treehouse team, they are trully the best and they built a true jewel for learning. Even the community, you, seems pretty nice.

7,168 PointsVery nice, love the colours and overall feel of the site. Makes me really want to get back onto my own :) The only thing I don't like so much is when sizing the window down, the 3-loop class looks very narrow. Because of the 4 column structure. Maybe adding a extra breakpoint and making it 2 columns wide(?), before getting to the mobile view of 1 column wide. It is only a little thing I have with it. All in all it looks great, keep up the good work!

2,534 PointsI've been trying to do the thing with the static background picture when scrolling down. How you do that?
Take a look to my portfolio: The Bastard's Designs

Mathias Szanto
3,256 PointsOh, thank you all for your comments, it's a -real- pleasure for me !
@Stephan: yes you are right, i will try to improve this as soon as possible !
@Marcelo: simply add background-attachment: fixed; in your selected bg :)
Marcelo Retana
2,534 PointsAnd you have to apply any "transparent" attribute to it? explain me a little bit and thank you.
Mathias Szanto
3,256 Pointsno transparence :) if you're asking for the Lion in background, i added the .png in a class (lionbg class) with thoses properties:
background-repeat: no-repeat;
background-position: center;
background-attachment: fixed;
and the brown bg with hexadecimal colors class (maroon). Then, i mixed both:
<div class="maroon lionbg">
for other backgrounds images (photos) i simply added background-attachment: fixed; :)

3,727 PointsGreat work! Well done! Anyway, do you planning to add "fixed navigation" to your webiste? It's really useful, specially for one-page sites :)
Mathias Szanto
3,256 PointsYes, i'm currently thinking about this ! i hesitate because i tested the navbar on the very top, before the sun, and the header has less impact like this. I will have to do more test i think !

It's a really good moment for me, because you cannot imagine how some french professors manage young people. I leaved school at 16, because they told me i won't be able to work in web jobs (it was 12 years ago), 'cause i wasn't good enough in mathematics. So i choosed to make my own path, and i have no french degree at all (learned english and computer basics alone at the age of 12) and i'm totally autodidact.
I fought to find a good job as Webmaster/Community manager, fought to build my own little enterprise (in France they look degree, not experience, it's not like USA at all)
One day, while browsing CSS-Tricks and others webdesign based sites, i found Treehouse. At first, it was really impressive, considering the high quality of the environnement, the full english language, and the skills teached. After some months, i decided to subscribe.
And now, i consider Treehouse the only one school i ever had. Thank you Nick Pettit and Guil Hernandez professors, and thank you all the team, that i will discover later, for your kind words.
Thank you all for what you made.
