After installing homebrew I lost my bash history

I am working on a mac with yosemite and I just lost the bash history. Its weird, because the entire history is not gone. It's almost like I am looking at another version of the history. I need the history because it had a bunch of git commands I had learned. any help is greatly appreciated.
