when i try to run my android application on my device the app crashes and says unfortunately xyz has stopped

Hi!

What other error messages are you shown? You should see error messages down towards the bottom section of Android studio. If you copy those errors here into the forums I will be able to help you out!

java.lang.IllegalStateException: You need to use a Theme.AppCompat theme (or descendant) with this activity.
