Android emulator(AVD) problems

I am trying to build my first android emulator or AVD. The android software i am using is newer than that in the Android development program. When i go to build it it works perfectly....but when i go to run the " hello world" application, the emulator i just built is not available to me..... this is a frustrating, endless process! please help

I don't know if this will help, but make sure your emulator is using the sdk version that is greater/newer than the minimum sdk version declared in your app. I had the same problem recently and there was no obvious error or alert, it just did not come up.

If you have an older computer, the emulator could take forever to load, and if it takes too long, it will hang.
