Android Screen Usage in Minutes

I am designing a mobile app and it will need to be able to measure how long the screen has been active (i.e not in a screensaver mode or display power saving) and it needs to know this in time format (i.e minutes and hours).

Can anyone tell me if this is possible and point me towards some documentation please?
