Android Studio freeze on Build a Blog Reader after step finishing asynctask-2

After completing the steps in build-a-blog-reader-android-app/adapting-data-for-display-in-a-list/finishing-our-asynctask-2 Android Studio gets stuck on gradle assembleDebug, alas this generates no errors to the log. I have tried Rebuilding and Clean which both complete without error. Hoping someone has an answer.

After several rebuilds and cleans Android Studio has suddenly started working again.
