Android Build a Simple Android App (2014) Getting Started with Android Setting Up an Android Development Environment for Linux

Android Studio runs very slowly

I'm using an Ubuntu 14.04 laptop with 4GB ram. Appreciate any recommendations.

Thanks

Clarification: Nearly all memory in use, swap space active. Xorg, firefox, and java running at the high end of /usr/bin/top. Firefox and android-studio are the only active apps on the desktop: switching between apps is slow. My experience is that performance suffers whenever swap is in use: I usually reboot.

I'm really interested in what other linux users are running to eke out satisfactory performance.

Can you describe more specifically what runs slowly? Is it laggy typing, slow app running, laggy switching windows, etc..
