'Backend' usually refers to server-side scripting/programming and administration. There are a number of different tracks to explore here - you'd probably want to start with Development Tools, and then take a look at the PHP track and the Ruby track. There is some overlap here with 'front-end' development (for example, the WordPress Development track delves into PHP), but generally you're looking for tracks that involve backend programming languages, as opposed to HTML/CSS.
