Any "build a simple javascript app" tutorials out there?

I really enjoyed the "build a simple webpage" tutorial before I got into writing html and css, is there an equivalent to that but with javascript or general programming? I am taking the intro to programming course on here, but its hard to envision what all these concepts really mean without something tangible to build toward. Thanks!

When are code schools going to realize presenting their content like a dictionary is not as good as project based content?

Memorizing a dictionary isn't going to teach you how to write literature, its the same thing with code. Memorizing a languages syntax isn't going to teach you how to write programs.
