Any suggestions for web hosting for sites built for clients

I am in the process of building a my first site for someone other than myself, I was wondering how other people handle the hosting for these sites. Is it best to host the sites on an account I setup that that offers unlimited websites or should I have the customer establish an account for their site.

This really depends on your business model. If you are only taking on the development/design responsibilities, than it might be best to help you client set up their own hosting account, or refer them to a web admin firm, but if you are looking to get into the hosting and site maintenance business, and you plan on taking on additional clients in the future, you should look into reseller hosting. Essentially, you have a hosting account through a provider, and you basically rent server space to your clients. This allows you to tie all of the sites that you are maintaining to one account and administer them from a central location. If you package a hosting plan as part of a monthly service that you offer, you could generate a predictable and profitable revenue stream from this model. If this is your preference, make sure that you do your research and only do business with an established and reliable hosting company as your clients will hold you responsible if there site goes down for some reason even though you do not administer the server. There are several good hosting companies out there, I use A2 and have no complaints http://www.a2hosting.com/reseller-hosting

On the other hand, if this is for a friend or someone of that nature, and not a business client, you could look at other solutions such as digital ocean where you can get low cost VPS servers https://www.digitalocean.com/ I don't host client websites with them, but I do use them for development servers, and again, I have no complaints.

Congrats on your first client! Hope this helps.

Thank you!!!
