Any tips on how to make a website, using Joomla CMS, responsive?

Somebody asked me to make this website http://www.montgomery.edu/ responsive and mobile friendly. The website is already using Joomla CMS and had a recent redesign. I have never worked with Joomla before. But I am comfortable with making websites responsive using only CSS. My question is do I need to know Joomla before doing anything? Any tips on where I should start from?

Thanks a lot!!!

WTF! is http://www.montgomery.edu/ anyways? because without the / it is a community college in bfe. just saying. this isn't some sort of deliverance thing is it? where are the on-line ethics being taught, at guillermo's school of online integrity? just saying.

James, sorry I didn't understand what exactly you mean by that, can you explain more please? Thanks

Hi MJ, I made a response to this a while back if you want to check it out. Treehouse is getting more requests for Joomla, so we'll see what the future holds.

Thanks Dustin. ;)

HI MJ,

I suggest you create a "child theme" and change the template there.

Navigate to Administrator-> Extensions->template Manager and selecting the template you wish to change.

Once you've checked the box next to the template, you can click the 'Duplicate' button to create a second copy of the template.

This will become the Override while the primary copy of the template remains the designated Master.

Then you just need to edit the css files to make the website responsive.

Hugo, I couldn't find template manager, how should I add another template? can you explain more please
