Any way to hide stuff that I already know?

There are a lot of interesting courses here, but there are also several on topics that are old hat to me. Is there any way for me to hide the stuff I already know, or perhaps to take some final test to get all the points for a whole course, so that Treehouse will only show me the interesting stuff that I don't know yet?

No, there is not, but I do like the idea!

Sounds like you are looking for a "Hide Course" and/or "Hide Badge" button. Did I get that right?

Yup - a way to say "I already know this stuff; don't bother me with it any more." Or, ideally, "I already know this stuff, let me prove it to you right now and then give me the points for it and then don't bother me with it any more."

I'm curious what the utility of points is, other than as a metric of amount of effort you expended interacting with a site.

Nothing more than bragging rights. Instead of "I took a course on Treehouse and got 100 points!" it feels more prestigious to say "I know 900 points worth of stuff on Treehouse so far!"

Also, I've been taking a user's Profile page as a general representation of what he knows. Rather than awarding points to users, maybe it would be better to show "Badges that a user has earned by completing courses" and "Badges that a user believes he deserves based on his knowledge, but he hasn't bothered with the course".

so maybe we don't get points for stuff we know if we don't do it the "treehouse way" but still would be pretty cool to hide stuff we know already

That's a neat feature, go further and tell fellow Treehouse users. Activity on forum in the past has resulted in features getting built.

If you know everything and want the points that bad, you could always just play like 10 seconds of the video then skip to all the challenges and quizzes... That way you don't watch the video (Although I'm sure there is something in there you might have missed or is worth reviewing) and you prove to yourself and Treehouse that you know what they have to teach you! :)

Playing the videos don't effect completion status of a stage

Well then there ya go, he suggested a solution to a problem that didn't exist in the first place, everybody wins :)

You'd still have to do each code challenge & quizzes individually instead of taking just one mastery test and then be awarded all of the points for all of those exercises.
