Anyone experience slow browsing in Treehouse?

Hi. I don't know why Treehouse is slow to browse for me compared to other websites. Anyone got the same problem?

Yep! We're kind of getting hammered at the moment :) We're working on it though - hopefully we'll have another server or two up and running in the next little bit to help us bring things back to normal.

Yeah its really slow for me as well, guess they are having a few problems with the upgrade, which looks amazing by the way. Just hope the speed issues disappear soon.

Same here. I have confidence you'll get it sorted.

Hi Tommy. Will that take time? It is really annoying. We saw the beauty of the new site but we hate this issue.

I don't know if this this problem has anything to do with the https protocol? I use Firefox but what I noticed all websites are good in browsing speed but Treehouse is not!

Suli S -

We're pretty bummed about it too. All the publicity from the redesign has more than doubled our normal server load and we're having to race to keep up.

I don't have a specific timeframe for you but we're just getting the new servers tested to make sure everything's ok - hopefully we'll start seeing improvement real soon.

Did you get slashdotted or hacknews-ed (?) about the re-design?

People still slashdot things? :)

We were on HN, and the redesign also got a lot of twitter traffic. There was also an announcement email - I don't have a traffic breakdown or anything, but we're definitely under some serious load.

Aha!! This answers the support request I just logged. Feel free to ignore it as I don't want to add to your pain!.

Good luck with bringing in the new servers, the new site looks great!

Things should be a bit snappier now. We're going to keep an eye on it and continue to try to work on performance, of course, but for now you should see some improvement :)

It seems so already Tommy, yes! Are you guys still using AWS for the hosting?

We are. Hopefully that will be changing in the very near future, though.

That kind of web hosting interest me. Can you explain why you are moving in one sentence? I'd love to see a deep dive/project on picking and setting up that kind of web hosting. (Rackspace is similiar, correct?). Especially for guys geared more towards the design side of stuff.

Mostly it has to do with the support infrastructure. Right now we're managing everything ourselves, which means that it takes us a little longer to respond to problems (like the performance issue today) and ultimately means that we get to spend less time improving Treehouse.

Switching over to a company that can manage it all for us and provide dedicated support will enable us to deal with these situations more quickly and will free us up to spend more time making Treehouse a better place to learn.

More than a sentence but that's what I've got :)

That works for me. Servers are a rabbit hole I do not like going down. I'm always curious to learn who and how one chooses where to host.

It seems a bit better now but still not great.

Much better load times. I was seeing 12-16 second loads. Now the longest I've seen is 6 seconds, with many pages loading in about 2 seconds, which is on par with what the site was before the update.

Seems to be running better now, thanks for keeping us updated.

The only issue I'm having is trouble with the video buffering. It tends to stop and just buffer like there's no tomorrow, and it won't stop, so I'll have to refresh. I know it's only a push of a button, but it's still annoying.

Hey Kristófer Isar Ingimundarson -

I'd suggest you get in touch with our support team at help@teamtreehouse.com. They have a few tips and troubleshooting tricks for finding some common issues with our video playback and might be able to help with that :)

Allright, thanks Tommy :)
