App crashes when getting input

With the exact code from SignUpActivity.java copied into my code, the app crashes when trying to call username.getText(). Any ideas as to why? Thank you.

Hello,

Could you please provide the code that this is happening with, along with the full logcat error message? These will help us in assisting you in diagnosing this crash.

Hi Tyler

Just a possible thing to consider, did you use toString() at the end of the method calls?

e.g. username.getText().toString();

it's just getText actually returns an editable not a string so if you try to store this as a string or use in an .equals() method you will get an error?
