App theme error

After I changed my AppTheme to "android:Theme.Holo.Light.NoActionBar"

I got this error:

Unable to start activity ComponentInfo{com.guimend.signalsfrommars/com.guimend.signalsfrommars.MainActivity}: java.lang.IllegalStateException: You need to use a Theme.AppCompat theme (or descendant) with this activity.

Why MUST I use an AppCompat theme? How can I change it to another one without getting this error?

Yes do use the AppCompat theme. I tried to use the regular theme as-well and it didn't work. Just use "Theme.AppCompat.Light.NoActionBar". it works the same
