Are hover & visited pre-defined codes? If so, is there a list of these pre-defined codes?

I noticed that when forming our main.css file the class, & id's are what ever we would like to type in. When use visited & hover we are not naming it to what we like, these are already pre-defined codes such as header, footer, body, etc..... Is there a list of these codes? I hope this makes sense. =)
