PHP

As an aspiring PHP developer, how do you put together a portfolio without any professional experience?

I am currently taking the Front End Web Development track, but my goal is to become a full-stack PHP + SQL developer, since after doing research and job searches on different back-end languages it seems that PHP and SQL have by far the greatest market share. I am really enjoying the front-end track and I look forward to taking the PHP tracks, but I don't know how I will actually take the leap from amateur to pro without a set of portfolio projects. If I wanted to be a full-stack JavaScript or Python developer then I could enroll in the Techdegree program and complete the portfolio projects, but without a Techdegree for PHP + SQL I am not sure how to go about finding projects. Any guidance would be really helpful!

Often good to ask family or friends to see whether they need a website or system making for a business. If that's too large scale, make your life easier! Design a to-do application for yourself, create a forum or blog from scratch, make a review website, make an e-commerce website! The possibilities are endless, just do what inspires you and build off it. Host it all on somewhere like GitHub so you can send it out to future employers, too. You could even make yourself a website to have your portfolio on!
