Associate treebook status with the right author

I am wondering if anyone on here has an instruction on how to associate a status in a rails application (treebook status for example) with the user that has actually written said status. In the current versions of treebook, it is only possible to select your own name, but what do i have to do if i want the program to figure that out for me? I hope you can help me!
